Recycle/Repurpose Art Exhibit

Show Take in: July 21st - 22nd 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
1) An original piece of art created from repurposed or recycled materials.
Examples include: using pieces of broken jewelry to make something new, a mosaic design made from broken ceramics, scraps to make a collage
2) The artwork has a message theme of Heal the Earth. Topics could include the environment, endangerment of wildlife, race relations, etc. The artist is to make the viewer aware of a condition or circumstance of our Earth or environment to bring to consciousness the issue.
Examples include: Paulo Grangeon’s 1800 papier mache panda bears traveling exhibition drawing attention that there are only 1800 panda bears that exist in the wild; Norman Rockwell’s painting, The Golden Rule; Peace Poles, etc.
Artists 18 years and older are eligible to submit two (2) pieces of work. All work should be original to the artist, completed within the last two (2) years and not exhibited at a previous GCAC show.
Cost: $10 for up to 2 pieces for Studio Residents, $20 for Non-resident Guild Members, $30 for Non-Guild Members.
Presentation: All work should be prepared in a simple, professional manner. 2D work should be prepared for display with appropriate hanging hardware. (No Saw Tooth Hangers.) Maximum size for any 2D work is 60” in any direction. 2D works on paper should be matted and framed under glass or plexi-glass. Canvas with stretchers less than an inch thick should be framed. 3D work will be limited to 100 lbs. The artist will assemble and position heavy or large pieces on site. Special installation entries will be installed by the artist. Art work will be accepted based on artistic merit, use of media/materials and appropriateness to the show theme.
Requirements: No artwork may be removed before the end of the show. A commission of 30% will be retained by the Gaston County Art Guild on all sales. Each artist will carry their own insurance, if desired. Artwork that sells while on display, to a party requesting shipping, shall deal directly with the artist. Artwork left for more than 7 days beyond the pickup date will become property of GACG. Prizes will be awarded the night of the reception.
