A Visual Harvest – 2017
A juried art exhibition presented by the Gaston County Art Guild @ Arts on Main
September 8 – November 2
All artists 18 years and older living in North Carolina & South Carolina may submit up to three entries. Photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, glass, ceramic, jewelry, printmaking and fiber are eligible. All work must be original, completed within the last 2 years, and NOT previously exhibited at a Gaston County Art Guild show. The juror will select the art to be exhibited and choose the awards. Artists will be notified of acceptance of their work. Entry fee is non-refundable.
The Gaston County Art Guild is again pleased to offer a 3-DAY Oil Painting WORKSHOP with Artist Harold O. Frontz
Titled: Oil Painting Methods: What you Need to Know
Date: September 30, October 1 and 2, 2017
Time: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Cost: $175.00
This workshop is ideal for oil painters of all levels who are unfamiliar with, or would like to learn more about basic painting theory. The course will focus on five important principles in creating a painting: drawing, composition, tonal values, color properties, and application of the paint. A portion of each day is devoted to presenting these important techniques. Examples are designed to illustrate methods for gaining personal competence. The workshop features handouts, demonstrations, and individual attention focused on each participant’s unique needs. Students may choose any subject matter when developing their paintings.
A deposit of $50.00 will hold your seat. Limited seating.

Healing the Earth
Recycle/Repurpose Art Exhibit
July 26th - August 24th 2017

Reception: Friday July 28th, 6:30p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Show Take in: July 21st - 22nd 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
1) An original piece of art created from repurposed or recycled materials.
Examples include: using pieces of broken jewelry to make something new, a mosaic design made from broken ceramics, scraps to make a collage
2) The artwork has a message theme of Heal the Earth. Topics could include the environment, endangerment of wildlife, race relations, etc. The artist is to make the viewer aware of a condition or circumstance of our Earth or environment to bring to consciousness the issue.
Examples include: Paulo Grangeon’s 1800 papier mache panda bears traveling exhibition drawing attention that there are only 1800 panda bears that exist in the wild; Norman Rockwell’s painting, The Golden Rule; Peace Poles, etc.
Artists 18 years and older are eligible to submit two (2) pieces of work. All work should be original to the artist, completed within the last two (2) years and not exhibited at a previous GCAC show.
Cost: $10 for up to 2 pieces for Studio Residents, $20 for Non-resident Guild Members, $30 for Non-Guild Members.
