Artist Ginny BoydSince I was old enough to hold crayons in my hands, I have been an artist. Raised in a family of scientists, and engineers, I stuck out like a paintbrush in a cup of yellow #2 pencils. I figured I was adopted. But my grandmother assured me I wasn’t and I had life experiences that other artists would never have. By her wise words, I have learned to incorporate scientific documentation and methods with my spiritually symbolic work. Much of my work documents the personal dialogue the artist has with herself as she makes decisions to develop an individual piece of work. This, hopefully, stimulates the viewer to not only see the product but the process and development of concepts behind the work. This way the observer is there from the conception of the piece. Born in Washington D.C., I grew up in Charlotte, N.C. Majoring in 3-dimensional design with an emphasis on metal work, I attended Sullins College, University of Arizona and University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Winthrop University. As a National Board Teacher I taught high school art in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System (CMS) for 15 years, and in 2004 I represented CMS as the Art Teacher in Residence at the McColl Center. In 2005, I retired from full time teaching to pursue more time making art.
Most recently, my work has been exhibited at the McColl Center, The Charleston House, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Spirit Square, Gaston College-Jeanne Rauch Gallery, The City Club and the Gaston County Public Library. Currently, my work can be seen at the Gaston County Museum of Art and History and the “Beet” in NODA.
