Artist Ty Hobson

I studied commercial art at East Carolina University, but I think I have since found my niche as something between an illustrator and fine artist. My style is rather diverse, and I often like to reference stories, folklore, mythology and pop-culture in my work. I get bored quickly with doing too much of the same thing, but lately my choice media are ink wash and oil paint.

I work as a freelance faux painter/muralist, and I continue to craft my own projects in my spare time. My personal work is usually driven more by theme and content than by the imagery in and of itself, and thus the design, color, composition and style are tailored to fit the concept or feeling I want to get across. I am always looking for ways to change things up, to keep my work fresh and to keep improving.

I try to include a lot of detail, but without getting overly tight and controlled. My goal is for my work to look very alive, but with lots of subtlety, atmosphere and feeling. If you don’t feel it, then why paint it?
