Artist Shirley Calhoun Williams
Shirley Williams, Oil Painter, Mixed Media Artist, Photographer. Shirley is a native of Gaston Co... She comes from a family of artist, the late Ira Calhoun her father, along with her siblings. She is currently studying fine arts at Gaston Community College. She studied photography there also. Her art has hung in various galleries including Jeanne Rauch Gallery, Shield Museum, Stowe Botanical Gardens, Southern Arts Gallery, Visual Arts Gallery, and other businesses. Williams was chosen for ( North Carolina State Community college ) President's Choice Awards Show, to represent Gaston College for the years 2003, 2004, and 2005. Williams is currently displaying several pieces for Jim Long at the North Carolina State Insurance Building in Raleigh. Her art hangs in Public and private collections as well as university collections. She credits the work of Vincent Van Gough, Jean-François Millet, Jean-Leon Gerome, Claude Monet, Jed Jackson, Beth Edwards, Gary Freeman, and Jason Story with influencing her style. Williams is currently painting family portraits, landscapes, and still life, and is available for commissioned work.
