Artist Mary Pressley

Artist Statement:

“Since childhood I’ve had a desire to paint, draw and try to create something beautiful and lasting.

When my three children were small there was no time or money to get involved with artwork.

When my children became teenagers, I managed to return to college and later earned a degree in Piano Pedagogy.

Following that came a chance to teach piano and music theory at Sacred Heart College in Belmont, NC. Again art had been “put on the shelf’ and I literally turned most of my attention to music.

Being a Church Musician for 40 plus years has been an added blessing to my life.

Almost 13 years ago, while caring for my mom in my home, I received an oil paint set as a gift from my husband. Since that day, I’ve painted almost non-stop.

Thanks to God, my life is full of wonderful things to do in music and art.

The Gaston County Art Guild, Art1, Southern Arts Society, Firestone Grill, Bespoke Jewelers, Clay Café, and The Cup and Saucer Tea Room, have given me an opportunity to display my art.

A day without being able to paint a canvas , a wall mural or even a piece of paper is like a day without sunshine.
