Artist John Lomax
Biography John Lomax is a Charlotte native and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BS in Geology. After college, he served as a US Navy flight officer. He worked in the ceramic tile industry as a contractor and after selling his business, he started painting watercolors and became active in several regional art associations and is a signature member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society. John has studied with many well known watercolor artists and teachers and currently teaches workshops and classes in the Charlotte area. Many of his paintings are scenes taken from his travels in this country and abroad and he has exhibited in many shows and galleries throughout this area. “I’ve always been interested in drawing and painting from an early age but found it difficult to paint while trying to earn a living. The creative juices would not flow until I was able to have full time to devote to art. I admire the paintings of Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer and many of the lesser know artists who are teaching and exhibiting today. When I paint time seems to stand still, and I take great pleasure in sharing my work with others through exhibiting and also teaching watercolor techniques to people who are trying to improve their skills like myself.” He especially likes to paint boats, coastal pictures, and has found that people’s faces and everyday scenes provide interesting subjects. The strong contrast of values, light, and shadow is evident in many of his paintings
